My launcher and bottles hold 217 psi ! or 15 bar !

Post by basrockets »

Hi,
I have a very nice launcher, i hold about 15 bar (217 psi ) ! but i think that is can hold 20 bar (290 psi ).

I have very strong bottles, which hold approximately 17 bar or 246 psi !

I have a video :

now I'm making a 1,5L rocket, I'm going to try to break the class C record.

Those bottles are really impressive. What is the volume of the bottles that can hold that much pressure. Those may be the highest pressure bottles we have ever seen. Are they much heavier than common soda bottles? Do you have any idea what type of plastic they are made from? Any info you can share about the bottles would be most interesting. Thanks!

This was a 1,5L bottle, They are slightly heavier but not much. Daan en pleun from D&P rocket also Use this bottles.
I have made a 4,5L water rocket with this bottles, with robinson couplings.
Today I am goining to launch my 4.5 L rocket with 12,5 bar or 13 bar (181 ~ 188 psi ).

i think that it is just a normal PET plastick bottle but really thick.

Hi Bas,

We arn't using that kind of bottles. We are using Spa bottles. A little lighter but also strong ones. The bottles you are using are the old coca cola or fanta bottles. They have a realy thick wall and are realy strong!

When you say "Old" coke bottles, do you mean they are no longer being made?

In the netherlands the soda bottles are thicker because when you buy for instence cocacola they charge you extra money for the bottle to incurige people to bring them back.
This is a tax on the bottle itself (i think it's 0.25 eurocent), these bottles get washed out and re-used.
Here in belgium you have the same system for glass bottles.

until 2006 it was legally required to re-use soda bottles.
since then the factories started to use the thinner pet bottles.
So the "old" bottles are the ones from before 2006.

Were you able to stock up on the old bottles before they stopped using them? It would be nice to have collected up a few dozen of them before they were gone.

Unfortunately i just discovered water rocketry last year so i wasn't able to stock up on the old bottles.
Few people were aware of the change, they suddenly changed to the thinner bottles.
I think Daan en Pleun still have a stock of old bottles.

That's a shame that so few people were stockpiling those bottles. It's always the good things that they phase out!

btw. This rockets is finally done ! with a new payload and a electric timer. so if the weather is good i will launch the rocket.
There is a chance the the rocket will go like 150 - 200 meter !!

It's great that you can still find a source for those bottles!

Please take plenty of pictures and videos of the launch! It sounds like it will be quite impressive!
