Big bore Gardena Launcher

Post by Muzza »

Has anyone else used these? Designed for 19mm hose not 12mm (3/4" not 1/2")
I've only got it to a bench test stage at the moment, but looking promising.
I'll get some pics up shortly

nozzle is a hose joiner machined (a.k.a. filed and sanded) to fit into bottle neck and glued in with epoxy. Threads and carry ring have been "dremelled" off. The bore of the nozzle was just the right size to use the copper tube as a launch tube.

it's been pressure tested to 120 psi with no issues, next step is fins and a nosecone.
After that I plan to turn this into booster for my 500ft rocket to try and increase my P.B.

I have never thought of attaching the nozzle like that. I have had so many problems with the Gardena nozzles leaking, I might have to try this. What brand of epoxy did you use? I have some 5-Minute epoxy that seems like it would be too weak to hold the nozzle in.

I used Araldite, the regular kind, not the 5min stuff. I also carved a bit of a groove around the inside of the bottle neck, and roughened the whole area with a dremel to give the glue something to lock into.
The launcher components are all glued together with the same stuff too

I might have to try using epoxy to attach nozzles. Let us know how it works!

That looks really promising. The larger mouth will get you much more acceleration. It should be really impressive to see it go. Nice work!
