Tent Stake Release mechanism

Post by bugwubber »

Testing a new release I made for a low drag rocket with a "boat tail" fairing covering the bottle threads.

It's uses a small piece of fence post, with a hole drilled through it.
A tent stake is inserted through the fence post and the launch tube, mounted on a 2x4 block is lined up so the stake hits the center of the launch tube 1/8" above the o-ring.

A small piece of 1/2" PVC was glued to the face of the fence post to help reinforce the stake. Don't know if it will be necessary or if it will work at all.

Testing went great however I will be adding a piece of elastic cord to keep the stake pulled in. Tested it up to 90psi.

Noticed some nicks on the ring handle from the launcher. Think I'll reserve this launcher for just when I'm trying to launch a rocket with a boat tail.
