Just wondering if anyone but Team Parental Advisory was out for the 1000 foot challenge? Thats where my focus is in our water rocket program. Hope more than just our team is in it!

1000 Foot Challenge

Post by WRA2 »

Drag_Racer408a,

You are the first team to "announce" participation in the 1000 foot challenge. Since the contest is new some teams may be waiting for the list of prizes to be announced. The contest is open ended which means that the first prize will go to the first team to fly a WRA2 compliant rocket over 1000 feet. The contest will continue until all prizes are awarded.

Good luck,

I am not sure what you ment in your post when you said:

I have a WRA2 compliant rocket but i don't understand what you mean about all prizes awarded? is there like a prizes for the first 3 people to hit 1000 feet?

Can you please explain further.

I was reading the rules a little bit and was wondering about somthing. It says that the first team to 1000 feet wins. So you have to fly twice to clame it like stated in the Class A & Class B rules. But then what if you averaged your 2 flights and say like the second time the rocket only reach like 900 feet but your first flight hit over 1000 feet. Would you still win?

just wondering, i am sure if i can break 1000 feet once that i can do it again!

As the rules state the altitude you claim is the average of the two flights. If you had one flight of 900 feet the second one would have to be 1100 feet for the average the two flights to equil 1000 feet. Remember that the 2 flights also have to occur within 2 hours of each other as well. The results have to be repeatable.

Good Luck!!

When I become the first guy to break 1000 feet, can I do it again and again and collect all of the prizes?

I can take your stament in 2 ways.

1. You are not the first guy to 1000 feet. U.S. Water Rockets was but they aren't alowed to compete.

2. I am hopefully going to win, i want to really bad. or atleast get in the top 3.

You are right that we are not allowed to compete. It wouldn't be a very fair contest if we could compete. We are going to have fun watching the race to 1000 feet. We have our own goal to shoot for this year.

Have fun with the contest and good luck!

I think Dragracer means ideas for rockets, not for rules!

But if we do have rules suggestions, can we make them?

That is a wonderful suggestion Spaceman, We would welcome suggestions for the rules for the New Class C and the Design and fabrication contests.

What would everybody like to see for rules in the design an fabrication contest.
Would seperate categories for launcher, rocket/staging mechanism, recoverysystem/payload. Whet about accurate models of real or famous rockets or gliders/planes?
How about a vote on this forum for the winner?

What would everyone like to see in the class C rules?
Pressure limits, Limitation to ordinary materials/No reinforcement, Volume limit?
