Tech questions about class A & C rules!

Postby reno1 » Wed Aug 27, 2008 2:51 am

Hi guys got some questions about class A and C rules. First question, is a rocket that has a T nozzle concidered a single stage and are they allowed in class A and C? And two, how about a rocket that has boosters that drop off a single stage rocket, is it still a single stage since they all ( main and boosters ) fire off at the same time ( at launch )?

Here are your answers:

A rocket with a T-nozzle would be considered a single stage since no "engines" or parts shed during flight. The T-nozzle just varies the nozzle opening.

A multi engine rocket where ALL the "engines stay permanently attached si also considered a single stage so If your boosters stay attached to the main rocket it would be considered a single stage.
:WRA2:

Drop away boosters would be considered multi stage as "engines" seperate reducing weight and drag. It does not matter if all "engines" are fired at once or if they fire in sequence. :WRA2:

Remember that there is a volume limit in the Class C competition and that overly complex rockets will be impractical. :WRA2:

Does whatever people do in pyro rockets use some type of drop away booster arrangement as well? What do they consider them? My gut feeling is that boosters would be considered another stage because they are self contained motors and they fall off when spent and allow remaining motors to lift a lighter load.

Any rocket where "engines" separate to reduce weight and drag is considered a multi stage rocket and would be classified as WRA2 Class B.

A multi engine rocket that all engines are permanently attached would be considered a single stage rocket.
