Introducing Ascension III
Hi everyone,
We are a team from the University of Cape Town Industrial CFD Research Group. We have been designing, building and testing high powered water rockets since 2013. Over the past few years our designs having been improving and we are excited to find the limits of water rocketry!
Ascension III is our latest water rocket which we launched last month on the 26th August 2015. We are going to filing for the official Class A world record shortly as our average altitude exceeded 623m set by the X-12.
We are so glad to be part of this community!

to the forum!
And USWR finally has another team in his league.
Don't forget to register as a WRA2 member! I think that that is nescessary to file for an official record, but I'm not shure.

Looking very good. It's been so long since we had a submission. I need to take some time to digest all this new info!

Hey there,
welcome to the forum!
It would be interesting to learn more about your rockets and your team.
Do you have a website or YouTube channel?
Greetings from Germany

Thanks Spaceman Spiff!
Hi Julian, Thanks for the welcome. We don't have a website, but are in progress with our YouTube channel. Will let you know when it is operational
We have written a report which briefly documents our project if you would like to take a look. It is attached.

For some reason it won't upload as an attachment
Anyways you can see it in the "Water rocket world record submissions" folder in the "2723 ft (830m) Class A record discussion" topic.

I must ask, as I am looking for a good one, what altimeter did your team use? The launchpad alTImeter is great, but it is rather large.

See here: http://www.wra2.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2805 for a stripped down version of the AlTImeter. If you're up for a little soldering it's not too bad to build and should fit inside "most" water rockets...

Re: Introducing Ascension III
Hi Skysaber89,
We used the Altus Metrum TeleMetrum altimeter. It is really an amazing altimeter. Its the best we have used and has GPS. It is quite pricey though, but for high powered rockets they are worth it for their ease of use, accuracy and light weight.
