Hydrogen Gas?

Post by WBC »

Hello my fellow waterrocketdudes:D

We are making a hydrogenwaterrocket with .duh Hydrogen
We where wondering however if we needed water and hydrogen, or if we only could make use of hydrogen, or is this too dangerous? In what ratio should the water/hydrogen be mixed?

Thanx for your help already:D

Welcome guys!

Why are you planning to use hydrogen gas? Are you going to just pressurize the gas, or do you intend to ignite the gas for propulsion like the small hydrogen rocket kits that generate hydrogen from water?
Hydrogen in volumes similar to that of the air in typical water rockets could be dangerous.

Hydrogen is the worst gas to compress to use by itself as a reaction mass because it is so light.

The idea to separate water and then use a spark to ignite it to propel a water rocket has been explored before and there were some cool videos of it floating around. It sounds like that is what this team is doing.

If that's what these guys are doing, then they should definitely use the water for reaction mass and not just the exploding reaction.
