PL Glues and others?
Does PL type construction glue only come in colk gun style tubes?
What other types of glues can be used for deployment system type work?
Any other glues you can thank of and there uses
Thanks

If I use a Loctite product, which one of their PL Adhesive should I use? They have several adhesives to pick from?

How about Tile Bond Polyurethane glues, can they be used? They look very handly as compared to a large gun tube.

Re: PL Glues and others?
This is what I use for non pressure bonds- work in the payload bay etc. with some work it can be removed to replace a bottle.
With fins and splices, I am now solidly PLP 8x only. This stuff is so thick I don't think I'd buy it in a squeeze tube if it was offered.

PL PRemium only comes in caulk tubes. You can get them in the small home size or the industrial size. Since there are so many types of glues there really is not enough time to test them all, so we stick with this glue because it is known to work.Flash wrote:Does PL type construction glue only come in colk gun style tubes?

Re: PL Glues and others?
It really depends on the materials you are working with. Aside from PL, I like to have some GOOP, some water thin super glue, some thick gel super glue (CA glue), wood glue, and hot glue. They all have strengths and weaknesses.Flash wrote:Just some basic designs, was looking for something for the nose cone, but got the product from US Rocket site.

GOOP- I use this for a lot PET-to-other material bonds. Sand the PET first. Remains fairly flexible, not as good a bond as PL, but easier to apply. Use for less critical pieces.
Hot glue- nice and quick. Often it use for temporary jobs, because it can be pealed off of non-porous surfaces fairly easily. Can use it on PET, but you have to be careful not to let the gun get to full temperature or the PET will deform.
Water thin super glue- good for smooth, close fitting parts (but not great on PET). Good for sealing various things, like the edges of wood or laminated cardboard fins.
Thick Super Glue- good where very fast setting is required, and surfaces are a little too rough or porous for water thin super glue.
Oh, and good two-sided tape (look for red rolls; the good ones always seem to use red plastic as a release material between the layers) and two sided foam tape. Both are very handy, surprisingly strong, and can usually be found at the dollar store.
That was a lot more than I meant to write. Hope it's somewhat helpful.

Re: PL Glues and others?
Hello There,
I am from the UK and we don't have any pl premium for splicing or bottles that I know of. So I use the titebond polyurethane glue for the outer sleeve and for the join I use a sealer that will not hold to 40 psi- yet does seal the bottles as I before, used the titebond for both the join and the sleeve- and many of the spices were holding to 120 psi but leaking....
So now I use two glues, one for the seal and one for the strength.
Cheers!

Re: PL Glues and others?
If your splices leak, then you probably have too much shrinking of the inner bottle. If the bottles are not snug when they go together, then you will have a lot of area for the glue to fill, and that makes it hard to keep it from leaking.Jamie5335 wrote:Hello There,
