FTC Nozzle

Post by Water Rocket Expert »

Pretty frosty around here. It jut snowed ad this morning it was 3 degrees above zero! That is pretty cold for around here! I was wondering especially from anyone who has made and FTC rocket, I have made the nozzle out of the caps provided and used an X-Acto knife to cut a hole in it. This way I fit the neck of a soda bottle in here. The only problem is launching it. I can't find out how to launch it because the rim for the zip ties to hang on to is covered up with glue. It is a full bore rocket but I can't seem to figure how to hold it on during pressurization. Can anyone help?

Here is a picture. I will try to post another one later, as you can see this is not the clearest.

Yeah you are going to have to redo that. Unless you want to go to the trouble and building an internally gripping launch pad.

Yeah your right. I was thinking about a launch rod but I think the bottle i better. I'm just not sure if what I did will hold the pressure. For the end cap I used the FTC cap and PL'ed a bottle cap over the end and then glued the FTC cap in place. Will that hold. What do you guys do?

Threw away the cap that came with the tube. Heat shrunk a bottle over the bottom and top. Polycarbonate doesn't shrink the way blow molded PET does. Glued with PLP.

I noticed that it doesn't yesterday when I tried to shrink it.

I didn't heat shrink it I just glued the edges to it I think it ain't gonna work so I will just have to try to do your method after I test it. How high should it go? It is about 6.5 feet tall excluding nose cone part, has a ring fin and it will be pressurized to 120 psi. How much higher can I pump it to since it is not reinforced? Maybe it will go 700'?

Someone else will have to answer that. I typically don't pressurize over 100psi.
