A Gardena nozzle rocket will have a slower take off than a full bore rocket at the same pressure. Because the rocket is travelling slower at take off, it will be much more likely to be affected by the wind. Also the positioning of the weight in a rocket will be more important. There are ways around this. The best way is to increase the pressure. Problem is that if your equipment is not built to handle higher pressures, there will be problems. Another way is to build a lighter rocket. What ever method you choose, the goal is to get a rocket that can accelerate fast enough so that variables do not affect the rocket as much.
I would suggest that you prove your designs on a full bore rocket and then use them on a Gardena rocket. The important thing is to have fun and not give up *WHEN* your rockets have problems or crash (or explode or hit a car)!

Did a static test on the rocket tonight!
I'm a little concerned that I have the fit too tight or too hard an o-ring, as it wouldn't release off the o-ring at 50 psi. Might just need some soap. I need to keep in mind that separation in flight would require less effort but still.... Will try cleaning and soap for the next test.
BUT...
The shroud held in place while the rocket was pressurized, and pulled down with little effort when I vented pressure on the launcher. All other indications are looking good!
Rain is coming in tomorrow so we'll see. Very excited by today's results.

This is as awesome as anything you can imagine for a water rocket. It looks like something anyone could hand build and have success very quickly. Nice work. keep us posted on the results!

So tonight the old upper stage experienced a rapid unscheduled disassembly on the launchpad at 75psi. Fins were located at about a 25ft radius.
There is so much good news here, I'm just happy regardless.
1. Air start mech withstood the blast with only a nick.
2. The bottle the air start mechanism was mounted on was made 4hrs earlier. The coupling worked perfectly!
3. The shroud worked perfectly as well, dropping until the rocket was pressurized over 30psi. The shroud was of course destroyed.
4. We were outside of the debris zone.
5. The bottle that failed was old and had recently suffered a hard landing. Not surprising it failed. I should not have used it.

New upper stage fins. Lighter weight fins means tumble recovery won't work. Perhaps a parachute is in order...
