Camp Ripley 2015

Post by bugwubber »

I just got an invite to run a water rocket station at Camp Ripley for a BoyScout event called Ripley Rendezvous in May.

That is awesome bugwubber! Remember there will be 2000 scouts plus any parents/workers, which means only 4000+ eyes to watch your rockets.

No pressure.

That's what got us in trouble. Didn't have a card reader to upload so we just got a second card. I suspect the shopvac got it, and that was the one time I didn't inspect the contents before dumping.

Launcher is looking a bit worn. Time for a new coat of paint.

Well since we're dealing with water, better to keep things sealed and protected. Also it was definitely time for an inspection.

Looks like the bed frame steel (which is a high carbon steel) was a great choice.

Going to reinforce the attachment to the wood blocks that attach it to the hinges though. I had just one lag bolt on each block. Also adding some rests to protect the horizontal pipe when it is not attached to the stabilizer feet. Everything will get a coat of enamel paint instead of the latex originally used.

Progress.
Had to spend some time sanding the launch tubes above the o-rings. Had quite a bit of sand damage. i started using a pre launch dunk tank for the rockets to cut down on stuck rockets. A few had to be cut off prior to that.

Hi post your question and I'll reply, keep in mind my participation/response time is often limited by life so if you address your questions generally to the board, others may be able to respond faster or with better answers. :-)
