Basically the steel bar replaces the zipties and collar. This was designed to launch multiple rockets at the same instant for side by side flight comparisons. Here's some links to the orig threads and a walkthrough youtube video.

A local bottling company is donating 1500 to our BSA council for this.

These are not the 1000 bottles. These are the 500 extra. (And one bag of recycled) Looks to be pristine dr pepper bottles. No labels!

They're kinda squeaky when they are new.

It did start raining dueing the day but nothing too heavy, and no lightning so we kept going!

Will post some pictures tonight

A quick video of one of the launches:

We estimated around 200 water rockets made and launched, even with rain.

And of course since this was at Camp Ripley, we had to pause for 4 low altitude flybys from a C130 cargo plane.

And some pictures! The box fins that US Water Rockets came up with worked really well and were easy to prep for. I went to a big box club store and asked for some of their cardboard slip sheets. I took the sheets and cut them into strips on my table saw to the width of my level. This way the Scouts only had to make a couple small cuts to make their fins.

Here's a picture gallery from the local paper photographer of the event. Some great water rocket pictures on 2 and 3.

Wow, Bugwubber. That was an amazing event. You really know how to put on a show. Getting the pallet of bottles is a major score. Next time you should try and go for the "most simultaneous launched water rockets" record. That would be cool. Thanks for sharing the story and the photos, and thanks for the plug for our "Box Fins". You are using them exactly the way we had in mind.

Thanks! The remaining bottles are headed to a CubScout summer camp. I understand they have 5 new launchers now. I gave them my pink example rocket so it will be interesting to see if they use it.
