Gardena fittings and coke-bottle thread

Post by poriet »

Hi,
One way of launching a bottle is to use the standard gardena hose-connector. The female part stays behind at launch: the male part is fixed to the mouth of the bottle. Somehow.
There is no easy way to fix the bottle to the gardena nozzle as the threads are not the same. So far I know of 2 methods:
1. Use a dremel to remove the thread from the bottle so that it becomes a crude push-fit into the gardena; graunch it in, use hot-glue and pray.
2. Use a custom-made connector which fits both threads perfectly. I did hear of such a thing, but have never been able to find one.

Recently, with the rise of 3D printing, I thought of making something suitable. However, writing the software to produce such a device is way beyond me.

How have other rocketeers dealt with this problem ( if at all )?
Does anyone know where one can obtain the magical dual connector ( if it really does exist )?
Has anyone ever 3D printed anything along these lines?

Here's my take.

The strategy is to use a bottle cap for the threads, and reinforce the sides with polycarbonate florescent light tube cover. In this case, I took a homemade bottle coupler and used PLP8x to set a male/male gardena coupler.

Bugwubber's method is the standard way to do it. But if you have a 3D printer, here is a article from USWR that shows how they are tackling this issue:

Perhaps this is something you can do with your parents? NASA has an educational doc on water rockets they might find interesting.
