Scioly Bottle Rocket

Post by kendreaditya »

Hello,
I was wondering if someone could help me build a water bottle rocket that stays in the air for 15 seconds. Carries an egg and that is a 1 Liter bottle rocket.

The rules to this event are in the pdf link below:

Thank You!

15 seconds isn't possible given the restriction 3.g. "Rockets must not change chape or deploy any type of recovery system during launch or flight."

Furthermore, the maximum pressure is 60 psi. That severly limits the amount of energy you have available to get aloft. Given a 2-liter bottle, the maximum altitude achievable is about 70 meters if you optimize: total empty weight 130 g (including 60 g for the egg and 42 g for the bottle)), water fill 430 ml. And that flight would last less than 8 seconds.

One thing to try is to configure the rocket with wings so that when it's empty, it starts to glide instead of fall.

And of course, for the flight to count at all, the egg must survive.

Interesting contest!
