If I understand the principle of the plasma rocket, it's only good for a minute amount of very high speed thrust over a very long period of time. The spacecraft accelerates very gradually to a very high speed. The problem with this method is that it can't get you into orbit from the ground.

you are right, they are like that at the moment but they are working on a longer thrust durration plasma rocket engine. They are also very interested (and so am i) in antimatter engines, altough these are just designes at the moment, it interests NASA as the amount of fuel needed for antimatter is much smaller than traditional fuels...to bad they cant get any antimatter from the particle accelerator yet...remember when people used to say that it the particle accelerator was going to creat a black hole and such the whole earth into it :mrgreen:
