How not to fall a tree
A lot of snow outside means a lot of browsing. I have a feeling that most of the adults will have sympathy and the kids will laugh. This is a sad and kind of stupidly funny video.

Well that just sucks, don't it? I bet he had to seep on the couch for a few months.

That's a good amount of snow.Water Rocket Expert wrote:17" of snow here. That was a very long hill.bugwubber wrote:Physics will always be there to teach even the unwilling.

When I clear the driveway, I always pile the snow into one mound. Then we typically make a 6ft tall snow slide in the front yard at the beginning of the sled run.
Here's a picture of it from a couple years ago That helps get us from the front yard to the back yard where the big hill is.

Got it. Me and my friends built a giant snow fort igloo. It is done by making a pile of snow and then carving out the inside as others pile it on. The snow from the inside is put on the outside and the walls are about 14-20" thick.

How much snow do you usually get or have now?

Typically 1-1/2'. We are fairly dry compared to East of here. The fun comes from the fact that once it snows in Dec, it won't start melting until end of March. I had to wait until May last year to take the Christmas lights off the roof.Water Rocket Expert wrote:How much snow do you usually get or have now?

It snows here but it melts in about 3 to 4 weeks. Though it does get more and more every time it snows. We are down here in Maryland.

Re: How not to fall a tree
At first it sounded like he was using a sledge hammer and felling wedges. Don't know why he'd be using an axe on a tree that big. But that may explain why his notch is so poorly cut. My guess is he cut too much of his hinge away and it just pulled apart.. Should have had a rope on that tree to pull it over.Water Rocket Expert wrote:Isn't that his ax?U.S. Water Rockets1 wrote:The guy tosses his hammer at the end. I've cut down 5 60ft trees in my yard and all of them landed within 3ft of where I wanted them to land. I would have called the pros for a tree that big.

Would love to see the "followup video" showing what happened to the house.
