I just saw on TV that an independent board is recommending that NASA not abandon any current rocket designs and that the advisory board the President appointed to investigate was not taking human ratings into consideration when it was recommending that NASA contract out the flights to private companies.
Ideally, we should have NASA continue what it's doing AND give seed money to private firms to insure that we have commercial alternatives. We can't put all our eggs in either basket!
