You'll only need one or two pinhole sized holes. If you use large openings you might cause too much drag and rip the nosecone off during launch.

It could be vacuum or rocket body weight or a combination, holding it on by momentum. This means your rocket is functioning good. It's an over achiever.

The drawback of this recovery system is angular launches prevent nose cone separation, and so does a fast apogee.
It's not very reliable.

You can try:
large side openings or holes to prevent a vacuum from keeping it on,
Increasing the rocket drag with larger thicker fins,
increasing nose cone weight to outpace current rocket drag,
or create a weight that is unstable.

Most reduce the performance of your rocket in sacrifice of making the recovery system function better.

I have a system that changes the weight CL and unsettles the nosecone to pull it off.

I am also working on two other recovery systems that will be disclosed at a later time, that are equally simple and much more reliable.
