This Sunday the 3rd April at approx 2:30pm Sydney time (UTC+10) we will have a launch day to try the new updates on the water rocket car. We may even have a shot at the Dragster Speed Record if things go well.
We will try out something new for the hobby and use twitter to provide updates, commentary and photos in real time during the event.
Updates will be via our Twitter Page
http://www.twitter.com/toddhampson
If your a regular tweeter then you can go to our twitter page and follow us now then get our updates as we post them.
We will use the hashtag #waterrocketcar for all posts, so you can search on that too to find updates
If you are not a regular twitter user thats ok too, just go to our twitter page above about that time in your local area, or check out our HHWRSA web site
http://wrocket.hampson.net.au
and look in the sidebar on the right under the Twitter heading and updates will be there too.
Here is a good time converter, remember our time is Sydney Australia Time, and no daylight savings tomorrow (ends tonight)

We set one of those Twitter accounts up years ago before tweeting became popular. Nobody involved in water rockets really took a liking to the social networking scene.thampson wrote:02:30pm 3/4/2011 Sydney time is 04:30am 3/4/2011 UTC time

Re: Tweeting our Launch Day
Well the technology seemed to work well, we were able to post live updates and pictures from the event. For those that want to see it, the tweets and pics are all still available on our twitter account

We didnt give a lot of notice about this launch date but I think it can bring the community together a little if there is more notice and people can just follow along on their phones, ipads or PC's where ever they happen to be.
Twitter is interactive too so you can give support and feedback instantly. Its great if others are following and supporting instead of being out there by yourself at the launch site
We will definitely try it again for our next launch day and give a little more notice now we know it works well.

Good idea to try this.
This sounds like a good way for teams to have "witnesses" at record attempts when launching in remote locations. People can follow a team's "trials and tribulations" as they go for a new world record.
I think that the biggest obstacle is going to be the time zone differences. Your trial worked out to be held at 3am on a Sunday morning in the States so I do not know how many people here got a chance to try it.

Re: Tweeting our Launch Day
Hi Lisa,
Yeah I know about the time differences I think I will have to try to launch a bit earlier in the day to try to get in the window for people being awake in the states as well as UK etc
As the technology worked well I will give more notice for the next one and do it at a better time for others and we will see if we can get a few people following along in realtime
Hopefully some others might want to try to do it to on their launch days. If anyone needs a hand with the technology I can certainly point them in the right direction

Re: Tweeting our Launch Day
We tried to follow your tweets but Twitter went down a short while after the first run, so our meeting broke up and everyone went home to get to bed. It was good to see the first run. The do need to get the bugs worked out on their servers.thampson wrote:Well the technology seemed to work well, we were able to post live updates and pictures from the event.
