RC car - 160 mph

Post by RaZias »

Here is a RC car with a shape of a rocket car that hitted 160 mph, I dont know how it steers.

This is a list of videos of RC records:

http://fastestrc.blogspot.com/2008/01/videos.html

It seems there will be several attemps to achive 200 mph or more, what amazes me is how these cars dont loose steering and handling, they have a micro-suspension scaled down from real cars and also they have 4 motorized wheels.

A WR-car has no motorized wheels and no suspension system.

It seems the car goes straight line thanks to gyroscopes that manipulate rudders, maybe it would be a nice idea for a WR-dragster...I dont know the price of such thing.

RaZias,

thanks for those links, there are plenty to look at and analyse.

I noticed the fast cars having a vertical fin, being very low to the ground an aero shell and very wide compared to the wheelbase. Some food for thought there for sure :)

I couldnt find much on the gyro steering but its an interesting concept :)

RaZias,

I did a bit of reading up on the gyro steering and this is what the fast car you mentions uses to keep the car straight. The gyro which is normally used for helicopters tail rotors, is used in a car and is in series with the steering servo. It reacts to changes away from the preferred heading and send signals to the steering servo to control the cars steering. In effect its correcting the steering much faster than any human could, it can also react to oversteering to countersteer to smooth out big steering adjustments.

This is an excellent find we will definitely look into it more to try to integrate it with our own r/c steering.

Two of them could have an application in vertical water rockets as well. one on the x-axis and one on the z-axis. You could build a gymballed nozzle, hook these two up and let it control how straight you fly the rocket. Easier said than done of course, but some more food for thought there :)

thanks again RaZias :)

Here is a RC car propelled by a solid rocket so it's more similiar to a WR-dragster:
