Water Rocket Car R/C Steering Development

Post by thampson »

The last week or so we have been working on a R/C (remote control) addition to our water rocket car. There is much to know it seems in the R/C world and we have been on a steep learning curve.

We are not quite there yet, but here is a sneak peek at where we are at. There is a more extensive writeup on our website of the development work with the r/c transmitter / receiver and the steering build.

I have attached a pic of the test setup below, there are a few more pics in the link above

Also here is a video of the steering setup on the bench during testing.

We have a few more thing to work on but we are getting close to powered tests.

You just need a nice thing to cover the car so it would look cool.

Like a black tube cutted from one hole to another with shark tooths in the front.

The limit of the car is the limit of the radio range. Maybe you will need to get a radio system like the ones that controls those miniature aeroplanes.

Sincerely I am thinking if a WR-car passes the 100 km/h in front of a "flash-radar" will the "police flash radar" flash it ?

I have tested the radio working at a range of 170m and the servos were still working fine. I don't think distance will be an issue initially.

I also tested the 10Ghz radar gun on the car and it does pick it up, but I haven't don't one at full speed yet, so I will report back on this to the forum.
