Baking Soda and Vinegar

Post by atvan »

Has anybody here tried a baking soda/vinegar deployment system inflating a balloon to either cause drag or push out the parachute? I suppose it has the same drawback as most active systems activated passively that it would either deploy at burnout or not at all, though it could be designed to compensate for the delay with the inflation. Is it worth it to try?

Antigravity used a system such as this in there record flight. It does seem to deploy early but the reaction is delayed.

That is very cool, and seems to work fairly well. Nice rocket too :p

There are plenty of alternatives to baking soda and vinegar that you should look at. There are a lot of products that "fizz" when you put them in water. Alka-Seltzer tablets are a good alternative. The reason these are superior are that they do not make a smelly mess when the liquid comes out. The fizzy tablets just need water to create gas, and the result is a minty smelling liquid that cleans up with water.
