Re: Parachute Deployment
these flaps come out to increase the surface area of the rocket and creates more drag. ill u all soon.

Re: Parachute Deployment
That's a neat idea. I can imagine a rocket with a tubular section along the body that opens up like a clamshell and sprouts "wings" that stick out and slow the air flow. You could get a nice unstable tumble recovery like that or maybe you could even angle the wings to get it to spin like a helicopter? Either way would be very safe and reliable. It would be different that what everyone else does and being unique is fun too! Let us know how you make out!Brian wrote:these flaps come out to increase the surface area of the rocket and creates more drag. ill u all soon.

i have finnaly finnished my gravity deployment system with air breaks and im going to launch it soon. im about to make a new slitly more complexe gravity deployment system and hopefully better.

Re: Parachute Deployment
I hope it works for you! It would be cool to see someone finally figure out how to make a deploy that was based on gravity!Brian wrote:i have finnaly finnished my gravity deployment system with air breaks and im going to launch it soon. im about to make a new slitly more complexe gravity deployment system and hopefully better.

Re: Parachute Deployment
i just cant get it the gravity system to work. but i still have some ideas. and a new nozzle design.

i have finnaly finnished my newest gravity deployment system today . i give it a 95% chance of working. the problem is its quite a bit wind at the moment

I admire your perseverance! Sticking to an idea until you iron out all the bugs is the definition of a good scientist!Brian wrote:i have finnaly finnished my newest gravity deployment system today . i give it a 95% chance of working. the problem is its quite a bit wind at the moment

Re: Parachute Deployment
I've had to rebuild my recovery system because the box that holds the parachute was too small so it got wedged. but it's fixed & im going off to launch it now.

When i launched it, it deployed mid-flight again and riped everything apart but easily fixed and a recalibration.Brian wrote:I've had to rebuild my recovery system because the box that holds the parachute was too small so it got wedged. but it's fixed & im going off to launch it now.

Re: Parachute Deployment
A system sensitive enough to detect gravity calibrated to reject the forces of flying is the "holy grail" of deploy systems! If you get it to work you will be king of all water rockets!Brian wrote:When i launched it, it deployed mid-flight again and riped everything apart but easily fixed and a recalibration.Brian wrote:I've had to rebuild my recovery system because the box that holds the parachute was too small so it got wedged. but it's fixed & im going off to launch it now.

Re: Parachute Deployment
my deployment system should work but im having trouble getting the parachute out. at the moment the deployment system pulls out a locking pin that releises a piston to push out the parachute. the piston is being pulled by a rubber band and thats holding the locking pin in. ive put a rubber band to help pull out the locking pin but it still a fine line between shockwave deployment and gravity deployment. so i need a better way of getting the parachute out.

Re: Parachute Deployment
I think it was cloud dancers before that mentioned letting out a small parachute that could then pull out a larger one. Getting a little one to pop out must be a lot simpler than trying to pop out a large chute.Brian wrote:my deployment system should work but im having trouble getting the parachute out. at the moment the deployment system pulls out a locking pin that releises a piston to push out the parachute. the piston is being pulled by a rubber band and thats holding the locking pin in. ive put a rubber band to help pull out the locking pin but it still a fine line between shockwave deployment and gravity deployment. so i need a better way of getting the parachute out.

Re: Parachute Deployment
I never made a parachute but at least I am going to say something.
Could be done like a stick that would be moved horizontaly from the rocket with the parachute attached ? Like a stick with flag but instead with a parachute ?

Re: Parachute Deployment
I was thinking in a rocket with 2 stages but the above one would have only air at little pressure and a parachute in the volume where is the air.
The pressure of the above one would be the enough to separete from the main rocket and eject a parachute trow the nozzle.
The parachute should be open inside and not folded so it would be more easier to be ejected.
The 2 rockets would have to be connected by a string or something so the parachute would work for both of them.
I have never made a parachute before so I am only posting an idea that I don´t know if it´s silly or not.
