So i have been checking out some things on The Hackable CVS camera. I was just wondering how hard it was to hack it because i have heard of like 8 different ways to do it on like 20 different versions. I was wondering if you could give me some help Tim or Mark or anyone!

Thanks!

We discovered that the same camcorder is available as a commercial product that you can buy in the store and it's not one-time-use.

Yups same thing as i got USWR. They come also under other brands like jvc with slight modifications. The one you posted is the major one. Other ones run on the same Pure Digital technology. Kind of like a dell and sony computer both running windows.

Have you noticed any differences in the video quality between the various brands? Since they all use the same core technology, they all should produce the same quality output, correct? It seems like it would make a nice rugged little camera to get closeups of the rocket launching without risking the digital camcorders we use.

They are pretty much all the same overall. I have the cvs Hacked version and i have it all hopped up and it gets better quality than the regualr store bought brands. You can easily water proof them by putting a plastic bag over them. The only thing they vary in is the size i think.

If your lucky you could try to find an onlder cvs version and you can change the frames per second so you could get really good shots.

I picked up one of the newest CVS cameras when they were on sale after the 4th of July holiday. Thet are reported to have the best picture yet and the best frames per second. Mark tried to do the modification to unlock it and "Bricked" it. Now we have to wait until someone cracks the software so we can reload it.

Does anybody know how long these CVS cameras will record for? I'm thinking of getting one for my onboard video and I will need a long recording time so I can start it before I start pumping.
Thanks-

I dug up the info on the one we broke and it says it will record 20 minutes of footage.
