Parachute deployment system

Post by Batkiter »

My 21 litre booster has a new parachute module, transverselying ejection channel, diameter 100mm, flap release over Tomy timers with eccentric disk. The ejection energy is supplied by an PET spring.

Claus,

How much hours per week do you spend on water rockets? LOL!

I love the design. I hope it functions when you launch it because it would be a real shame if it were crashed and destroyed.

WOW! I made a parachute for my rocket, it was nowhere near as complex as this! I simply made the parachute from a grocery sack and attached it to the neck of the bottle. It worked out ok but once again WOW for your parachute.

How did your test go?

After read your thread..
Just I realise that i did not design any parachute deployment system for the boosters of my draft design water rocket..
Will consider this to avoid my boosters get crash and destroy.

It is not very difficult to add parachute systems to boosters. The booster stage separation is a very violent process with a good amount of force and energy expended. It is very easy to trigger a deploy with this. I use a simple door with a rubber band spring that it held in the closed position by a stick that comes out and presses against the sustainer. When the stage falls away, the door has nothing holding it closed and the parachute comes out (most of the time).
