New rocket goes 661 feet or 201 meter! Team.[D&P]Rockets*
Hi everyone,
New team personals best!
Last week we have launched a new rocket. Its a spliced rocket made out of three 1,5 liter bottles.
And capabel of holding 200 psi.
We launched the rocket three times. The first 2 times where launched with the fly cam one camera onboard. But the battery failed due to low energy status we think.. Or just a shitty accu..
While we cranked up the pressure each launch + 2 bars the rocket went higher and higher. And brought us finaly over the 656 feet or 200 meter barrier. The last rocket went 661 feet up in the air!
The next time we will put the onboard cam back in the rocket for some onboard footage!
The next goal is the 1000 foot mark! With our new splice method we can pressurise our rockets up to 200 psi +. And with some carbon fibre the pressure can even be a lot higher. And then we should aim for the 1000 feet! So stay tuned for some heavy rockets!

Some specs about the rocket:
The volume: about 4,2 liters
Pressure: 200 psi or 14 bar
Nozzle: 20 mm
Dry mass: comming soon.. I forgot it

No not with carbon fibre. We used a special way of splicing. And some very strong bottles. But we want to keep it a little secret

So, what is the rocket dry mass? is it a secret too?Daan.[D&P]Rockets* wrote:No not with carbon fibre. We used a special way of splicing. And some very strong bottles. But we want to keep it a little secret

Great flight! It's cool to see you guys going higher and higher. It's always a great feeling to set a new personal best, isn't it?Daan.[D&P]Rockets* wrote:No not with carbon fibre. We used a special way of splicing. And some very strong bottles. But we want to keep it a little secret

Nice work. Are these the bottles you set the hang time record with and launched at 175psi? Because if they are, with the right splice technique you should be able to get a lot more than 200 psi in there. Well, it's a bit more than just your splicing technique.
I heat shrink all my bottles onto a wooden form I turned on the lathe. Then you can shrink one right over top of another. This way you can make two sizes, one for the inner parts and one for the sleeves. My spliced rockets are 2 layers thick everywhere, except right by the bottle neck, but the plastic is thicker there anyways. I can't launch my source bottles at more than 150 psi, but I once pressurized a spliced test rocket to 300 before it burst. Just something to think about before you try carbon fiber. I really wish we had those thick walled 1.5 L bottles here so I could do some experimenting for my self.

Nice work guys
661ft is a long way up .. great achievement
I couldnt help but notice how close you were to the pressurized wrocket though. You may want to invest in a longer air hose. Also if you suspect a leak or want a closer look at the pressurized wrocket, a pair of binoculars come in very handy

Thanks!
We are going to invest in a longer pump hose :-) And some binoculars or a bigger pressure meter!
