The latest contraption from SPEW Works

Post by bugwubber »

Have had some ideas that demanded to be manifest in physical form. So thought I'd share what is current transpiring in the SPEW hangar.

Below is the ACROPHOBIA module loaded on the THBBT rocket. Also on-board are the OBSERVE exterior optics pods.

Some of the goals of this build were to construct an ogive nosecone, a new midbody payload bay and external camera pods.

Still plenty of work to be done.

That looks like a work of art.

Very nice job.

The "nacelles" have a "star trek" look to them.

Thanks! Each nacelle will have a camera loaded in it. Hopefully it will always have a good view.

What way are you pointing the cameras?

Out down and sideways.. oh and in and up. These cheap little cameras have two neat features-hemisphere wide angle lens that can flip 90 deg and software that lets you pan around the image.

For example, in this previous video, the onboard camera is not moving at all:

A couple more build pictures. Finally got the shroud right after trying four different approaches. PET just wasn't cutting it at this length with a transition. Next I need to paint the shroud and build out the recovery module.

Which cheap camera are you using? There are 2 or 3 of them with the tilting lens, but the widest angle one we've seen has only 100 degrees of view.

Here's the ACROPHOBIA module fitted to the THBBT rocket with the mating shroud largely finished.

That thing is definitely a work of art. Will you fly it? It looks too good to get banged up!

This one was Powderpuff Derby for Girl scouts. Daughter was a Daisy so I asked her what she wanted. A pony.

She did the final painting. I carved out the shape using a Dremel with a sanding hub, xacto knife, and sand paper.

We finished it with metallic blue paint and a white star on its forehead. And yes she got first place for Daisys. That was our first race.

You're just full of amazing talents. That's really nicely done. Your daughter is really lucky!
