Hi,

We launched our rocket on May 16th 2016. We called our rocket Mach 1.It’s made out of two 1,5 liters bottles. One is used for the pressure chamber and the other one for the parachute system. The rocket weights 176 g. The average altitude of the 3 flights is 84 m: (77+87+88)/3

Depends on the competition. The competitions that allow the use of bottled air require that the rocket be held at launch pressure for a specific time period to eliminate the advantage of using a tank to quickly fill and launch your rocket (stomp rocket). For hand pumping or compressors, it is probably only necessary to show your pressurization method in action (for example show a short clip of like 30 seconds of yourself pumping the rocket as you achieve launch pressure). This will make the videos shorter and smaller file size too and show your peers your method oof pressurization.

The rules of this competition class say that the rocket's pressure can't exceed 6,9 bar or 100 psi. So I had to prove that.

Of course everyone wants to prove something in the competitions, but that isn't my point. Actually what I meant was if it was mandatory to film pressurisation... turns out it was only for bottled air.


Oh, and speaking of bottled air, WRA2....

If we slooowly pressurize the rocket (probably 10psi/minute) to the target pressure, let's say 100 psi, will it be considered the pressure hold?

Or will we wait another 10?

If you use bottled air, you need to hold at launch pressure for 10 min. I know what you are suggesting but that just makes more "grey areas" for people to attempt to exploit. Someone could say as an example pressurize their rocket slowly for 9 an 1/2 min and achieve 10% of their launch pressure, then pressurize the other 90% during the last 30 seconds and qualify if the way you suggest was acceptable. There are just too many ways for which a competitor could manipulate that to give an advantage to using bottled air.

I understand what you want to prevent here. But I was thinking of steady fill rate.. but anyway I am going to use a handpump instead...


I wonder how the Class B and E Records remained untouched for a looong time....
