3000 psi Compressor for $200

Post by tsumrall »

It was mentioned that a 3000 psi air compressor could be bought for just over $200.

I couldn't seem to find it searching through Google. They all seem to be well over $1000.

Can anyone quote a brand name and model?

Thank you.

Mark and I use an Axsor FX3000. There are at least 3 other similar brands out there, but we went with the most popular one.

I was wondering when you were going to let the cat out of the bag, Tim.

I think I know what Dragracer is going to ask Santa for this year! :D

Thanks Tim. I was searching for compressors and so didn't see pumps. Pretty impressive if it does half of what they say.

How high have you pumped to?

I could use it to exercise and keep my tank full :)

Hi fellow Tim,

So far we've only used it seriously to get 620PSI into a PVC pipe. It came apart but did not explode where the one end cap was glued on. The glue came apart only. The flying cap put a nice dent in the trash can we had covering the rig so we wouldn't get killed. It's a little scary not knowing if the thing is going to blow up as you pump. It was really amazingly loud though.

We're going to burst some more on the 4th of July next year. Way louder than the wimpy firecrackers they sell nowadays.

Tim,

Thanks. 620psi is still pretty sweet for a hand pump.

OT: On the PVC thing, my son and I build "spud" guns altough we use wax as the projectile. We've "cracked" a few  but only because we insist on using pure oxygen with our ether. We can penatrate 3/4" particle board

For heavens sake be careful with that PVC. If you hit it with a sudden shock like an explosion, it shatters into small sharp fragments. That could do a number on you for sure. I bet if you get hit with one it wouldn't show up on an xray either!

If I have a 3000 psi compressor, I think my bottles will explode.

The trick is to take the bottles and modify them with other bottles, glue, fabric, plastics, and any other nonmetal material you can dream up that will make them hold as much pressure as possible with as little weight gain as possible. It's just like real rockets and missiles except that they can use metal but we can't for safety reasons.

Not if you properly reinforce them. 8) :WRA2:

Something tells me that 3000 PSI is beyond the practical limit for reinforcing a soda bottle. Maybe someone smarter than me knows better but that seems like an impossibly huge number.

Did they say that's what the 3000 in Project 3000 was all about? Holy crap!
