[U.S. Water Rockets1]

This is really a great time for Water Rockets! Seeing you guys getting excited about record setting is reminiscent of the time when we first got involved in the sport, and there was a lot of excitement about setting records. It's great that we have a really good set of rules to follow that removed all the ambiguity from competing, so you guys won't have to deal with all the politics and mudslinging that we had to endure when we first set the World Altitude Record for Water Rockets nearly 5 years ago.

You guys have really done some great work on your rockets and you should all be very proud of your accomplishments. Just think of what an accomplishment it was 5 years ago to fly a rocket with a parachute that deployed reliably... or flying a rocket back then with a video camera onboard.... you guys do routinely the kinds of things that were just dreams a few years ago.

Great accomplishments to all the teams!

Does anyone else think it looks like they caught a thermal? Or is there another explanation for the apparent rise from about 10 seconds to 40 seconds that I'm not catching? I'm not trying to say D&P caught a huge break, I'm just saying this might be the beginning of the end, or huge change, of class C. If rockets start really catching thermals, who knows what could happen. It could become a competition to see who can catch the best thermal and is still able to track their rocket down! But until then, congrats D&P.

The 2 flight rule cancels out any "lucky breaks" that any team may encounter like "catching a thermal" or perfect weather conditions or even a "lucky flight". Two flights within the required time period also prevents teams form anticipating conditions like that so don't worry about it.

The first rocket looked like it was caught up by a thermal. But we had to launch it twice and the 2nd rocket came down without a thermal. Thats because you have to launch twice in 1 hour. Wich is a good rule.
We already had a time discount because of the FCO2.. :-)

Actually you have 2 hours to complete two flights.

From the Class C rules page:
10) Record is calculated as the average of the two longest duration flights the rocket achieves within a 2-hour period. Duration determined from the video taken by the onboard camera by timing the flights from launch pad to ground. Results must be repeatable!

The clock starts upon liftoff of the first flight.
