i thought you guys might be interested in my new nose cone design.
this method adds lots of weight to the front of a rocket while giving an aerodynamic shape.
its really strong, i tried to remove a badly glued tip with a hammer but resorted to a saw and hammered it out.
just make sure to get the 'hot melt glue gun' really hot before you glue or else you get air pockets in the mold.

Re: Hot melt Glue Nose Cone
Nice. I tried using hot glue in a mold for nosecones but I had lousy results. My mistake was evidently using a really cheap glue gun (it just made a 'nest' of plastic) and trying to make the whole nosecone instead of just the tip; that's clever. I ended up with a different method with similar end result: a laundry detergent bottle lid with a nice rounded top, snipped the threads off and taped it in place.
Like you say, the advantage with this kind of nosecone is that it adds nose weight but at the tip only, which is right where you want it.

If you heat up the plaster mold before you put the hot melt glue in then it will flow better. We made copies of coins at school for a project using that method.

Instamorph moldable plastic is pretty awesome for the nose cones using a mold like that

I'm gonna have to try that. Pretty simple and great results.
