Newbie Launch

Post by HawaiiRockets »

Alright so this is why it's really tuff to launch a large water rocket on a little island, not much space! This one burned thru apogee at 398ft. Didn't have enough power to maintain vertical given an experiment with "jet foaming" didn't go as planned. I spent the rest of the day trudging thru the rain forest to find the rocket 50 ft up in the canopy, cameras, altimeter, everything in working order despite the nose cone dropping 50 ft down below and then getting rained on, not bad.

The forest was so dense, muddy, nasty, filled with mosquitoes, it took hours to find even though I knew where it landed withing maybe a 100 ft radius...

I am speechless. For your first launch, that was really good!!!

I want to know how you got that nice flow of foam. I have tried to do that to no avail.

A really good job!!!!

wow, I posted a reply but looks like it was deleted or something? guess they don't like the URL i mentioned with instructions on "jet foaming"? No matter, you can just google it... Anyways, so I had really high PSI, 145 - 150, added about 1/4 cup of dish soap, I cradled a tube that went about 1/3 down into the bottom cell. It's supposed to leave an air pocket the top of the bottom cell to help the air and water mix better which extends the burn rate. Seems there was a leak in the jet foaming tube so what was supposed to be an air pocket filled up with water.

Here is the launch just before the jungle crash flight:

No replies deleted here. When did you post it? Was it in this thread. Was it back when we were having the problem with the troll?

Hmm, don't think I have been active here enough to know about any troll activity ... maybe I just have a bad connection, no worries

I had a feeling we were going to get some awesome launch reports from you. Thanks for posting! You may find a piezo beeper/locator a worthwhile investment!
