Yes, a one-way valve would help. I bore out the end of my tube and put a ball in it (like a glass marble), then trap the ball with a coat hanger wire across the top, making sure the wire doesn't poke out beyond the walls of the tube.

Nice! I was thinking along the lines of using the ball from an old mouse: marbles are easier to get in bulk though!

I use a different launcher system. It allows for many thrust variations, a passive release for multi stages, and passive parachutes.
At the moment it will launch 12 - 1250ml pet bottles pressurized 130 psi. This is the monster rocket I’ll use to get the other 4 stages
In the air and moving in the right direction, up. The second stage is 6 - 1 000ml bottles. The third stage is 3 -750ml bottles which will act like
Boosters, they separately without parachutes. The 4 stage is 3 - 750ml bottles with parachute. And the 5 stage is 3 -500ml bottles with parachute.
The video is of the top 2 stages. Perfection takes time.
