Team Tommaso Valerio & soci Class D record submission (correct topic)
Hi,
this is the right topic of our team's record submission. Other topic in this forum ("Team Tommaso Valerio & soci Class D record submission") is wrong and should not be considered.
On 31st October 2015 we launched our rocket. There are a photo of the rocket and a photo of the unmodified bottle in the attachment. Two bottles were used: one to build the pressure vessel, another for the payload. Rocket volume is 1,5 liters. Its weight is 150 g. We used launchpad alTImeter to measure height and deploy a parachute which slows the rocket to 7 m/s (descent ratio).
You'll watch first the ground video, then the on board one.
LAUNCH 1
Time: 15:52
Pressure: 6.0 bar (87 PSI)
Water: 470 ml (31% of pressure vessel volume)
Height: 183 feet (55.8 m)

LAUNCH 2
Time: 16:27
Pressure: 6.0 bar (87 PSI)
Water: 500 ml (33%)
Height: 157 feet (47.9 m)

LAUNCH 3
Time: 16:44
Pressure: 6.3 bar (91 PSI)
Water: 500 ml (33%)
Height: 187 feet (57.0 m)

HEIGHT
Averaged height will be: (183+187+157)/3 feet = 176 feet (53,5 meters).
SIMULATOR DATA
Simulator at http://cjh.polyplex.org/rockets/simulation/ for out launches predicted apogee between 50 and 62 meters (using different coefficients of drag).
For any questions ask me .
Thank you for paying attention

Great job y'all!
Looks like a lot of work went into your rocket.

Thank you bugwubber! We are working in single bottle water rockets since May. And we are students so we have a lot of time to spend in rocketry!

Nice launches! I can't believe someone beat us in submitting for the class A record. I love the Launchpad Altimeter.
Good job!

@thampson - yes, safety is important!
@motorcyclepilot - I think I've only started the competition. According to simulators you can achieve about 70 or 75 meters with a class D rocket... So the competition has just started, I think we are far from maximum possible altitude with this kind of rockets!.
However to everybody

Yes you will gain a lot of height just by launching at 100psi. For Class D type rockets, we've hit 70m with a 2l rocket and 76m with a 1liter rocket.Lost on a tree wrote:@thampson - yes, safety is important!

Yes, we didn't launch at 100 psi only because we didn't want to waste 2 months of work because of an exploding rocket without a valid submission The bottle used has thin walls (low weight) but explodes only at 114 PSIYes you will gain a lot of height just by launching at 100psi. We regularly launch at 120 psi, though the bottles deform a bit during pressurization. No failures yet.Lost on a tree wrote:Yes, we didn't launch at 100 psi only because we didn't want to waste 2 months of work because of an exploding rocket without a valid submission The bottle used has thin walls (low weight) but explodes only at 114 PSIYes you will gain a lot of height just by launching at 100psi. Nice work! I like the level of detail you guys provided. All of these new record attempts from new people has really got me motivated to get back into building. Thanks for the inspiration!

@alien space agency - Yes, md80 y2000 cam. Video quality is quite poor but camera is really cheap, $12 on eBay.
