Saturn V "Moon Rocket" Model

Post by chriswaterrockets »

Hey,
I'm putting together a model of a Saturn V. Here are some pictures.
The finished model will be 1.2 meters high!

Beautiful. But although I've looked very hard I can't see where the bottle goes...

That looks really good! Did you pain it yourself??? How did you get the black areas so well defined? I can never get edges that smooth!

Nice job! I actually made a far less accurate version of the Saturn V as a water rocket a couple of years ago!

Yes, I painted it. I simply use tape. That works just fine. It takes some time though to put it on.

Thanks for the tip. Do you use an airbrush? I think that may be my problem.

No airbrush, no. How does that work though? Is it worth getting one? how expensive are they?
I guess you get a smoother surface or something like that?

Air brushes are not all that expensive and if you've got any artistic skill (which is where I come up short) you can do amazing things with them. The best part is you can use any kind of paint or ink you want and you get a much smaller particle in the spray that results in a smoother finish.

You can probably get a good starter setup for under $50, but you need an air supply with constant pressure, so you need a compressor and tank. I'd stay away from the little diaphragm compressors that often come with the kits.

Are you planning on flying this?

If I ever put the time to make something so beautiful I would be afraid to fly it!!!

No, I don't think I'll fly it. Also it isn't designed to fly, just a model. But if I wanted to, a few modifications could be made...
